Though some plants in the deep-sea survival game do grow back, most don’t, including palm trees. The list of plants that don’t respawn also includes the ficus tree and pine tree saplings. Any tree that provides you with wood sticks does not grow back.

However, it is worth pointing out that the palm tree sapling does respawn. How long does it take palm tree saplings to grow back? About two in-game days. Keep in mind, though, that a palm tree sapling will never grow into a palm tree.

Why Don’t Palm Trees Grow Back in Stranded Deep?

Stranded Deep is a survival game about exploration. The point is to eventually leave your small starting island and explore the ocean. You’re meant to find what’s hidden on the game’s many other islands, as well as what’s in its deep, dark depths.

Palm trees don’t grow back because if they did, you might not investigate the areas far from your initial island. It is one of the several mechanisms that forces you into exploration.

Perhaps you’d never find the megalodon or giant eel if you didn’t take to the sea, and you’d never come across all of the vehicle parts to build the gyrocopter or powered raft if you stayed in one place forever.

It’s possible the developers might patch in palm tree respawning at some point, but considering how long the game has been in Early Access (since 2015) and gone without it, such an addition is highly unlikely.

Since palm trees are gone forever once they’re harvested, it’s possible you’ll want to carry as much wood as possible when you go out on scavenging runs.

How to Transport More Wood Sticks Between Islands

Since you’ll have to island-hop to chop down palm trees, it’s worth making sure you have the inventory space to carry the maximum number of wood sticks at a single time.

Though you could devote all of your inventory slots to carrying wood sticks, it’s most likely you’ll bring along other tools, like the axe for chopping, the stone cutting tool for cutting down smaller plants, and perhaps a spear or speargun for defense.

All things being equal, your nine-slot inventory will hold 36 sticks, though you couldn’t carry anything else. Practically, you could only carry 27 sticks. However, if you take eight crates with you, you can carry 96 wood sticks and an axe in your inventory. Each crate can hold 12 wood sticks.

It’s highly doubtful you’ll ever need to carry that many wood sticks at a single time, but it’s worth making the most efficient use of your inventory space when exploring new islands.

Lastly, if you have a big enough raft and enough room, you can also haul the palm tree trunks onto your raft and transport them to another island, bringing even more wood back to your base.
