Following on from Turok’s release on Nintendo Switch this past March, developer Nightdive announced Turok 2: Seeds of Evil will release on the platform August 9th.
Limited Run Games, best known for publishing physical copies of indie and fan-favorite titles, said during E3 they’d be releasing physical copies of both Turok titles on the Switch sometime this year.
Now, Limited Run finally has a firm date for when pre-orders will open: August 16, not long after Seeds of Evil launches on the Switch. Turok will sell for $34.99 and can be found here, while Seeds of Evil can be found here and goes for the same price.
However, Limited Run doesn’t expect the actual cartridges to ship out until sometime in November. As always, pre-orders will be limited in quantity, and the timeframe for placing an order ends August 30 at 11:59pm EST.
Like most of Limited Run’s games, Turok and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil will come with interior art and a full-color booklet.
The Turok series was a big hit back in the Nintendo 64 days, boasting intense action and exotic settings, along with dynamic backgrounds — dynamic for the time, with foaming water and ricocheting bullets.
It might seem laughable now to consider these things as major selling points, but it’s not hard to trace the lineage of enhanced physics engines and ray-tracing technology in upcoming consoles back to games like Turok.
Impressive though the franchise’s visuals might have been at the time, survival and combat were significant parts of its success, parts that remain recognizable when translated into adorable chibi-dino battles.
