Thankfully, the Destiny 2 medal system is quite a bit simpler this year than it was in 2020 (as with most things, really). This Guardian Games guide will go over everything you need to know about earning, storing, and banking medals in the Guardian Games.

Destiny 2: Guardian Games Medals Guide

How to Get Medals

Before you can collect medals, you need to have a medal case. To get it, begin the Guardian Games questline by speaking with Zavala at the Tower. He’ll brag about the Titans winning last year, then send you to Evan Levante, who will give you another step and the Guardian Games 2021 class item of your choosing. Complete the objective she gives you to unlock your first medal, then deposit it to earn the Medal Case quest item.

With the Case in hand, you’re ready to grind to your heart’s content. One note though: you can only hold as many medals in the Case as indicated in the item’s description. Additional medals earned will not be stored, so return to the Tower frequently to deposit medals in the podium.

Step two of the process is playing core playlists — Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit — for Bronze Medals and the Nightfall, Survival, and Trials of Osiris modes for Silver Medals. You’ll receive the appropriate Medal as long as you’re wearing the Guardian Games class item.

Gold Medals

Earning Gold and Platinum Medals takes a little extra work. Eva has five quests available for purchase with Laurels at the bottom of her vendor screen (here’s how to farm Laurels if you need to get your hands on some extras). Gold Medal versions cost 100, Platinum 200. You can only hold one of these quests at a time, and your inventory is limited to 500 Laurels maximum, so choose which of these you think benefits you and your class’s victory dreams more.

The quests for Gold Medals take place in the core playlists and overwrite the Bronze Medal default reward once completed. Their requirements are straightforward: get so many kills, kill so many bosses, etc.

Platinum Medals

Platinum Medals are tougher to come by, as you might expect. You can only earn them in either Nightfall: The Ordeal or Trials of Osiris. Their requirements are thankfully straightforward as well, but the increased difficulty, or at least increased time investment, make them a larger prize.

One final note: if you deposit a large sum of Platinum medals for your class, you’ll be deemed an All-Star and receive a special commendation for the whole community to see. Doing so is quite a grind, but if you want your name up in lights, that’s how you make it happen.

That’s about it for Medals in Guardian Games 2021. Easy to understand, a little time-consuming to execute. Do it all, though, and you could catapult your class to the victory podium while getting your hands on a powerful Exotic Light Machine Gun and its Catalyst. We talk all about the Heir Apparent in its own guide.
